Pro Choice Protests

FuckChristians2.jpg

Protesters gathered in Milwaukee on the fourth of July to express outrage and show their opposition to the Supreme Court's decision to overturn Roe v. Wade. This setback in the battle for an individual's control over their own reproductive rights will mostly be at the expense of marginalized peoples in our society. Many who opt to terminate their pregnancy without medical assistance in a safe environment will lose their lives.

Farm and Driveway Stands (Ongoing)

(Eggs).7_edited.jpg

Produce and community are the key ingredients to a farm stand. Most don't make a profit. Some wish to expand, but almost never at the expense of their neighbors. Paper-sign-people are those who advertise their hard work in Sharpie and put out a payment box, entrusting those who patronize the stand to insert their payment in a bucket, coffee tin or other small container. The environmental impact of this work reduces shipment emissions. It is difficult to run a farm stand but rewarding. Those who are behind the plywood, the cart or the make-shift platform are not always who you might expect. This is an ongoing project to tell the stories of who rings the dinner bell.

Flooding In Hampton, VA

BoatDockSkyline2.jpg

Hampton Roads is one of the most vulnerable metropolitan areas in the U.S. to recurrent flooding. The water creeps up the road and into homes and businesses on a sunny day or during a torrential downpour. The land is slowly sinking while sea levels continue to rise, making nuisance flooding more common as time persists.

Dragged Anchor at Fort Monroe

LuigiAndDinghy9.jpg

Bodies of water cannot be tamed. Those who live on or near them know this best. Luigi is no exception. A woodworker who lived on his sailboat next to Fort Monroe in Hampton, VA. He is on his way from New York City to find a place to live on the Northern coast of South America. He has braved several storms and one Hurricane, but whilst asleep, his anchor was dragged by currents and his boat crashed on the rocky shoreline. The hull was saved from any piercings by his rubber dinghy, but the ordeal gave him another layer of respect for the ocean, even when in a sheltered inlet.

A family greenhouse in a battle to keep their land the name of development.

The Teeuwen family and their neighbors are the last holdouts to sell their land to the housing giant Ryan Homes. Each family has lived on their properties for several generations. The elders recounted a time when it was commonplace to get around town on horseback rather than cars. No local would blink an eye at the sight of a mounted horse trotting through a McDonalds drive through. Now the development poised to surround their properties threatens their farms and greenhouses with things like drainage, runoff, diminishing property values and a change of life from rural to suburban living.

Alvin Cole Protest

The killing of Alvin Cole by Milwaukee Police began a series of protests that again showed the tumultuous relationship between the police, white people and minorities. Racism, both internalized and externalized will one day leave a massive scar on the face of our society, but for now, it is a gushing wound.
